The beauty of a composite is it does not need to be painted or stained to prevent it from cracking, splitting and splintering. Due to the plastic content and texture of the material, paint does not adhere well, so we do not recommend it. Veranda Decking should be supported every two feet when stored. Proper handling requires covered storage at all levels of distribution including the job site. Units are wrapped to ensure weather tightness. Open units, including material at the job site, should be stored under cover to prevent rainwater from pooling between the board surfaces. Once installed, Veranda Decking is largely unaffected since rainfall is able to drain and evaporate.
Composite decking and railing materials are resilient. Clean your deck at least twice each year to remove pollen, organic debris, dirt or stains from the surface. Generally, a broom or a blower will work better than a hose for removing scattered organic materials like leaves. Over time, especially with kids and pets, the deck may become soiled. Dislodge accumulated dirt with a broom or by using soap and water and a nylon bristle scrub brush. Scrubbing in the direction of the grain is best. Thoroughly rinse off with a garden hose. Read the care and maintenance guide for further information on cleaning particular types of soils.
Standard ice melting products such as calcium chloride and rock salt can be used without harming the decking. Any residue left behind may be removed with mild, soapy water and a light brushing. Do not use a metal shovel or sharp edged tools to remove snow or ice from the surface of Veranda decking.
