About Veranda Products

What are composites?
By definition, a composite is “made up of various parts or elements” ; a new material made by combining two other materials. From the latest aerospace and automobile technology to boats, golf clubs, fishing poles and helmets, composites are everywhere. There's a good chance your roofing, siding, windows and countertops contain composite material. Wherever high performance, long life and easy care are important, composites push limits and provide solutions.
Composite decking, railing and fencing are made by marrying a variety of suitable polymer resins with refined wood. Veranda® composite decking by Fiberon is crafted at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities using only the finest raw materials available and the latest in polymer technology. It is this combination of high-quality ingredients and manufacturing expertise that produces the best-performing composite products in the industry: Veranda decking by Fiberon.
Who makes Veranda® Decking?
Fiberon is one of the manufacturers for Veranda composite decking products for The Home Depot.
Where can I buy Veranda Decking; and how much does it cost?
Veranda Decking by Fiberon is available in stocking and special order programs at Home Depot stores nationwide. It is competitively priced in comparison to other composite decking materials without the protective surface material. See your local Home Depot for specifics on pricing and availability in your area.
Can composite material be painted or stained?
The beauty of a composite is it does not need to be painted or stained to prevent it from cracking, splitting and splintering. Due to the plastic content and texture of the material, paint does not adhere well, so we do not recommend it. It will likely peel back off over time. How to determine how many boards/fasteners are needed.

About Composite Decking

What is Veranda Decking and why is it different from other composite products?
Veranda Decking products are coextruded composite decking protected with proprietary surfaces on the top and two edges to resist fading and staining, that traditional composite products cannot claim. The surface material provides this added protection that enables a true, low maintenance decking solution with long lasting beauty.
What is the difference between Veranda Composite Decking and wood?
Veranda decking products combine the look of wood with the durability of plastic. Unlike wood decks which require regular maintenance, there is no need to apply weather protectants or water seal products to Veranda. Veranda decking products will not splinter or become structurally unfit due to rot, splits, checks or damage caused by termites or fungal decay.
Is Veranda Decking slippery in wet or dry conditions?
Veranda Decking is embossed and micro-textured to provide slip-resistance. The decking meets requirements for both wet and dry conditions.
Does Veranda Decking retain heat in the summer?
Composite decking will retain heat when exposed to direct or reflective sunlight. Exercise caution if walking barefoot as footwear may be required.
Will Veranda products rot, splinter or decay like wood?
No. Veranda has been tested under accelerated weather conditions and is weather-resistant. It is also warranted against checking, splintering, delaminating, rotting, or structural damage from fungal decay when used in conjunction with an above ground application in a residential structure.
How many square feet are in a 10 pack?
12’ = 52.5 sq. ft.
16’ = 70 sq. ft.
20’ = 87.5 sq. ft.
Can Veranda decking be installed over existing decking?
We do not recommend installing our materials on any existing surface as it does not align with our ventilation requirements. We recommend you read the ventilation requirements on the installation instructions for the decking.
What is the max spacing between joists for Veranda Decking?
Residential
- Perpendicular joists, 16"
- Diagonal joists, 12"
- Stairs joists, 9"
Commercial
- Perpendicular joists, 12"
- Diagonal joists, 8"
- Stairs joists, 9"
How do you cover ends and grooved edge of boards?
The ends of the material can be concealed by bringing the fascia board up level with the deck surface, or you may use the square edge boards to create a border around the deck surface.

Care and Cleaning

How should Veranda Decking be stored and handled?
Veranda Decking should be supported every two feet when stored. Proper handling requires covered storage at all levels of distribution including the job site. Units are wrapped to ensure weather tightness. Open units, including material at the job site, should be stored under cover to prevent rainwater from pooling between the board surfaces. Once installed, Veranda Decking is largely unaffected since rainfall is able to drain and evaporate.
How do I clean and maintain Veranda composite decking and railing?
Composite decking and railing materials are resilient. Clean your deck at least twice each year to remove pollen, organic debris, dirt or stains from the surface. Generally, a broom or a blower will work better than a hose for removing scattered organic materials like leaves. Over time, especially with kids and pets, the deck may become soiled. Dislodge accumulated dirt with a broom or by using soap and water and a nylon bristle scrub brush. Scrubbing in the direction of the grain is best. Thoroughly rinse off with a garden hose. Read the care and maintenance guide for further information on cleaning particular types of soils.
What can be used to melt snow and ice on the Veranda Decking?
Standard ice melting products such as calcium chloride and rock salt can be used without harming the decking. Any residue left behind may be removed with mild, soapy water and a light brushing. Do not use a metal shovel or sharp edged tools to remove snow or ice from the surface of Veranda decking.
